As an international organisation, the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) connects chemical scientists with each other, with scientists in other disciplines and with society as a whole. Founded in 1841 and based in London and Cambridge, UK, we have around 50,000 members.

Using surplus capital generated by our global publishing and knowledge business, we fund thousands of chemical scientists and provide the support and resources vital to advancing chemical knowledge.

Publishing editor, Journals

This is a great opportunity to work with dynamic journal teams and researchers to ensure the RSC publishes high impact journals with the best science. You will be a critical part of the whole publishing process from initial submission through to final publication, as well as providing support to associate editors or commissioning journal covers. This is a varied role in which you will use your scientific knowledge daily to communicate the latest research to the chemical science community worldwide.  An essential part of your role will be to provide excellent customer service to our authors and reviewers.

• Experience of using computers for email, internet, file manipulation and word processing is essential
• Good organisational and time-management skills and the ability to work under pressure, prioritise and to meet deadlines
• Good attention to detail
• A proactive approach to problem solving
• Good communication skills in interactions with internal and external contacts are essential
• Proven ability to work well as a team

Training and development

As a graduate publishing editor, you will undergo a programme of structured training and development guided by experienced mentors within your team. This goes hand in hand with a competitive salary progression scheme.

Typical starting salaries

We offer a competitive salary progression scheme for this role. Starting salary is £27,337, increasing to £30,375 following a succesful six-month probationary period. Candidates with three years’ experience in this role (with good performance) can expect to earn c.£33,000pa.

Desired degree disciplines/experience

A good honours degree in science (chemical science preferred) is essential and postgraduate, or practical, experience in STM publishing would be an asset.
