CambridgeSoft’s Inventory Manager is a powerful mechanism for the maintenance and upkeep of chemical inventories in both production and R&D environments.
Each chemical or raw material can be set up in the database linked to an array of compound-specific information. I found this particularly useful and was most impressed by the substructure search facility which, in my mind, places this program above the rest. MSDSs can be linked to chemicals in the inventory database and basic functions are easily accessed.
This program can be used by the scientist in the lab for inventory compound searching, but also in the office for auditing. When you start, there is a list of default chemicals and locations, pre-organised, so customisation is relatively easy.
The program allows for accountability in the lab, usage and waste of chemicals, centralised organisation, and remote monitoring of the chemical store. In terms of monitoring or auditing, the stock reports are well placed, but there is also the ability to design reports based on custom choices and preferences.
