Firm has already shut Chinese plant, and will also sell off businesses in Australia and New Zealand

Bayer MaterialScience is closing a polycarbonate sheet plant in Darmstadt, Germany, and selling off further plants in Australia and New Zealand in an attempt to streamline its polycarbonate segment and remain competitive. The Darmstadt plant closure will see 90 jobs cut.

The company currently produces polycarbonate sheets at 10 sites worldwide, but says that this position is unsustainable in the face of increased competition and low demand. It has already closed its polycarbonate production plant in Beijing, China, last month, consolidating production in Guangzhou.
