Initiative will focus on smaller companies and provide tools to assess and reduce energy use
The European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) has launched a two-year, Europe-wide project to help chemical companies improve their energy efficiency.
Chemical industries are typically energy intensive. Therefore improving efficiency can lead to significant cost savings. Large companies have invested heavily in efficiency measures, and according to Cefic’s energy programme manager, Martina Beitke: ‘This project sets out to fill a gap between them and smaller companies that often lack the know-how and the right tools to effectively control energy use and run their plants in an energy efficient way.’
Cefic will establish the online Sectoral Platform in Chemicals for Energy Efficiency Excellence (SPICE3). This will provide tools to assess and improve energy efficiency, and a forum to share best practice.
