Deal adds laser surgery and cataract lens replacements to J&J’s eyecare business
Healthcare group Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has agreed to buy eyecare specialist Abbott Medical Optics (AMO) for $4.3 billion (£3.3 billion) in cash.
The deal brings J&J into the arena of replacement ocular lenses for cataract surgery, as well as laser vision correction technology. It also covers AMO’s consumer eyecare products such as eye drops and contact lens consumables, which complement J&J’s existing Acuvue contact lens business.
