Belgian chemical company Solvay has opened a new R&D centre in India intended to house 200 employees. The centre – in Savli, Gujarat State – will focus on high-performance polymers, organic chemistry, nano-composites and green chemistry.
Solvay has been working in India since 2000. It has seven production sites and 900 employees in the country, where it manufactures speciality polymers, engineering plastics, surfactants and chemicals. 2011 sales in India were EUR180 million (£140 million) – and the company plans to double that figure in the next three years.
