Appeals court quashes Clariant’s infringement claims
The UK Court of Appeal has dismissed Clariant’s claims that Indian firm Sudarshan was infringing its patents on yellow pigments.
The court awarded Sudarshan compensation amounting to its legal costs plus damages. Sudarshan claims that, by withdrawing its Sudafast Yellow product from international markets during litigation with Clariant, it missed out on significant sales and incurred capital costs of a new production line that was left idle. The company estimates the total impact of the case to be $4.8 million (£3 million).
