Research chemicals business no longer a strategic fit for owner Johnson Matthey
Laboratory supply giant Thermo Fisher Scientific is to buy research chemicals supplier Alfa Aesar for £256 million in cash. Alfa’s owner, Johnson Matthey, said that the business doesn’t fit with its strategy of focusing on ‘growth areas where we can apply our expertise in complex chemistry to create long term value for our shareholders’.
For Thermo Fisher, the acquisition complements its existing Fisher Scientific chemicals supply segment, and will be integrated with its laboratory products and services portfolio.
