In this month’s book club podcast, Anthony Warner – ‘The Angry Chef’ behind the popular blog of the same name that later spawned a book – tackles the enormous problem of obesity and how our perception about it could be at the core of the problem.
A veteran of the food industry, Warner introduces us to some intriguing and thought-provoking ideas about where obesity comes from and its causes, claiming that there’s much more to it than addressing issues with willpower and doing plenty of exercise.
Warner argues that shaming fat people is at the heart of the problem, directing us away from the real issues that we should be paying more attention to.
One of the most intriguing things about this book is how the author encourages us to re-think everything we know – or, more accurately, have been told throughout our lives – and consider a different viewpoint.
In our next installment, author Tim Smedley attempts to demystify the enormous problem of air pollution with his book Clearing the air. Determined to find out what has happened to the air we breathe, Smedley travelled the world to gain expert insight from scientists and politicians.
We want to include you, the Chemistry World reader, in the conversation so tweet your thoughts to @ChemistryWorld, or use the hashtag #BookClubCW and we’ll endeavour to include your opinions (or questions) in the podcast.
