One of reasons for research is the sharing of it and given the Wuhan lab has had data & research destroyed and their researchers prevented from discussing anything, it's kind of wasteful to be funding them I would say.
There is actually more evidence of the lab than the wet market albeit all circumstantial.
China could allow researchers in to study the orgin of this virus but they seem to be hiding something. Tracing the orgins isn't something that could be faked since the data would widely available.
Even if you are a wet market conspiracy theorist ;-D you should agree that dangerous labs need transparency to be safe and this kind of transparency can't be offered in an authoritarian regime.
