The RSC has given prominence to Net Zero Carbon (dioxide), a major aim of this year’s COP26 at Glasgow.

It may be useful to explain how reaching this aim will have on Global temperature. We all know that carbon dioxide absorbs infrared radiation (IR) but that is not the same as the Greenhouse Effect, which is the absorption of Earth’s heat by all its atmospheric gases by any means, such as convection, including wind, and conduction – which all gases do, ie they are all Greenhouse gases.

Because of their tiny concentration in Earth’s atmosphere, carbon dioxide and methane are insignificant contributors to Earth’s heat. Even water vapour, by far the biggest IR absorber at about 1%, makes only about a steady 1% contribution.
Thus Net Zero emissions have a Net Zero Effect on Earth’s temperature.

[This idea is expanded upon in the Chapter 1B (3 page .pdf) of my website,
"Planet Earth Climate Topics" on https://pjcarson2015.wordpress.com/
Chapter 1D, AGWgaffe, is self-explanatory. ]
