The accepted modern interpretation is called "quantum field theory", not "quantum probability theory".

And although Maxwell's *classical* interpretation of light is as propagating waves of electric and magnetic fields, it is more attune with QFT's waves of fundamental matter (e.g. electron waves, quark waves, etc). The Schrodinger wave equation for a photon, and the field wave equations for light are not the same (classical vs quantum), but the latter are closer to the QFT of real, rather than just mathematical, wave of fields.
